Quite often people post regarding the germination of "older" seeds and while I have never really had an issue with germination at all, I figured I'd share with all y'all my experience from this year with a couple old school big name seeds.

1180 Daletas from 2003, 947 Hunt from 2005 and 1140 Stevens from 2008 all had germination (filed gently and moist paper towel inside zip-lock baggy method on 85 degree heat mat)and have popped out of the soil in a matter of days.

Don't be afraid to germinate those big name seeds from yester-year....all 3 seeds will hopefully grow PB's for a few buddies.

PS - not only that...the 947 Hunt is as vigorous and healthy as any seedling I have started over the years...gonna be tough giving this one away...but I only have room for 2 and it looks like 2009 Wallace and 1602 Glasier will get top billing at home this year.

I've done 15 year old seeds, but they were all freezer kept as long as I had them.

yes I think you would have a hard time germing seeds left in a drawer that long.Freezer kept will germ 30 yrs later.I bet fridge kept seeds like 15 years in air tight containers.

Here is a good story. The specie is unknown as the seeds were over 700 years old and were found in some sort of a sealed container that was recovered from a sunken vessel which am told was an American Indian boat.

I talked with Brenda last week and here is the rest of the story.
