Any thoughts on when the plants stump splits the long way. The plant looks fine, I am just curious if this would hinder the plants growth. Anyone ever grow any monsters with a stem/crown like this? Of Course Its the 2009...

many times they just split because of growth, sometimes they split because of wind damage,(roll overs during a storm) sometimes we split them on purpose to allow any foam to exit at a point down the vine.
mostly the foaming comes into play when the fruit is growing at a fast pace and the plant is under a lot of growth stress as well.
if you make it until mid august with no stump foamer? your chances are good that this will not happen.

i have used twist ties in the past to close splits (length-wise splits) just adjust as needed and remove when closed usually caused by wind this time of the year

I don't pay any attention to length wise splits anymore. The flow of nutients and moisture doesn't seem to be interrupted.

Very common, search stem split and you'll see some pics and how it heals with a big scar. No worries though - many big ones still produced. Heck, many over 1K grown after losing the entire main stump, a split parallel with the vine shouldn't hold you back.
