Hi,

I've put some seedlings from indoors in a mini greenhouse outside. Now is my question : should I put them in a place where they get the most sun immediately?

Or better a few days in the shade and afterwards in the sun?

Thanks in advance for any reaction.

I'll be interested in what others say. I put them full sun immediately. They get hardened off and are not leggy. I take them in at night and don't put them out when the weather is crummy. They seem to do fine, but I don't know if they would do better if I did something different.

Whats more natural than getting sun immediately after sprouting,if they havent been under lights for several days they shouldnt need hardening off to the sun.

The temp should be correct, not to hot or cold

yes you only need to acclimate plants that spent there first days under lites.I had a nice day out when the melons popped so they were really started outside in full sun. Then they come in about dinner time before the temps really drop & go back under the lights. There looking good.

Right after the cotyledons are open my seedlings go straight into the greenhouse (which has direct sunlight and no shade on the seedlings).

If they have been indoors for a long period of time, and you place them outside an a sunny day they will get UV Burn

It would seem to me like the greenhouse plastic should filter the light enough where you wouldn't have to worry about UV burn. I wouldn't know much about that though given where I live. I put my 2009 in the ground a week ago and we have only had one partly sunny day since. :)

Good greenhouse grade plastic filters almost nothing. I've had sunburns form working in mine at times.

I get my seedlings in real sunlight (or under greenhouse plastic) asap, even if it's a little colder out.

mine go from indoors (7-10 days), to a commercial greenhouse (10-14 days), to in ground under a floating row cover shelter. I remove the shelter when it out grows the space and the temps are warm enough. I try to remove the shelter on a cloudy day or in the evening so it gets limited direct sunlight the first day.

I talked about a mini-greenhouse but it's not a real greenhouse at all!! It's an upside down plastic aquarium placed over a plastic container, just big enough for 4 plants.

I have always put plants out in full sun as soon as they have germed, never had a problem yet.

I allow my seedlings artificial light for a few days after the seedlings get to the first try leaf they get to go outside for the day. After that they to back under the lights while I'm at work. When I get home they get put in the basement bulkhead to get a taste of a little cold to help them get used to adversity. I try doing this very slowly to not shock or stress the plant out to much. Also I run a fan on them at times to help them get a bit stronger. As far as UV Burns I m not worried about them. Their plants and they'll grow.

Well the seed under soil don't matter indoor outdoor it don't know as far as the suns part,so when put outside after 1st germed its same as starting outside .but as Linus said they can mess up if you had them inside a couple weeks .been there burnt that.
