if I am going to start my seeds directly in dirt in a green house should I soak my seeds first before planting them? and if so how long?

I suppose you can start them directly in ground....however, there will be no way of knowing which way your vine will run. last year I didn't know the vine comes out opposite the first true leaf...had to do some creative looping to get it pointed back the way it should be.

Yes, soak them first.

Hopefully helpful suggestion: Add a layer of sand (5 mm thick) before you place the seed on the soil, and cover the seed with another 5 mm layer of sand before you top up the pot with soil. The sand will form a little barrier between the seed and the soil (with potential problems in there), but the root will reach the soil right after germination.

Sand also dries out much quicker that regular "soil" thus hampering soil borne diseases at soil level where fungus grows.

Don't forget to file the seeds before soaking.

you need to stand on head for 10 mins then river dance for 5 mins, spin around till you pass out. once you wake up again and dress your wounds you can then start soaking seeds.

dont skip a step or germination will be compramised

I lightly file, soak in luke warm water for a hour.....then I don't think about it because I end up peeking if it takes more than a day. Then when finished, I don't do the river dance, I use the Rumba and then directly into the zumba, works wonders!
