I have been thinking... considering this late, extra cold spring. Inside the standard mini hoop house..would a smaller one covered with bubble wrap help? I was opening a package and got the idea? Thoughts anyone?

I have seen hoop houses that are "double skinned." I think if you do a web search there are lots to be seen. Not a bad idea but it would decrease the light level so you might think about a grow light for a few days. Wondering if a little heater would be easier. That's what I do Or, if you got some $, there's this type of stuff.

On a cloudy day the light transmission would become pretty weak.
What I tend to do is put a blanket over the HH during the night. It works well if you secure it down so the wind won't blow it off.

I went and got the biggest clear plastic storage tub they had at Wal-Mart. I put it over the seedling at night and remove it when I head to work in the morning. Its big enough to use for the first couple of weeks they are in the soil.

for several years now ron and i have used that same double house method.
what we do over the seedling that already has heating cables inground is to make a hoop frame of wire screening formed over the plant( a piece approx 3ft wide x 4ft long-bent in the shape of a tunnel) we place this wire cage over the seedling with a large beach towel(or thin blanket) over the cage to form a second mini greenhouse.uncover next a.m.
we also place a low watt bulb (with shade) pressed against the ground for additional warmth if needed)
to date we have never lost a plant due to cold.

I typically cover the plants in the spring with buckets inside the cold frame (plant house). When they are small every night when I get home from work a paper paint bucket goes over the seedling and then a 5 gallon pail. Everything is closed up and allowed to warm with the last bit of daylight. I haven't lost a plant by freezing by this method and there is no supplemental heat.
