So who exactly do I contact if and when I break the state record pumpkin here in Mississippi? We don't have pumpkin weigh offs or state fairs that showcase giant vegetables here. (That I'm aware of)
Also, where do I get it weighed? It's obviously not a big thing here because of the heat but I'm very determined to have my name in the record books. Thank you!!!

Thanks, but that site really doesn't answer those questions, I can only find current and past records. No info on steps for potential records. What exactly are the proper procedures when I'm ready to have my pumpkin weighed? Do I find a certified scale, do I contact my state if it's a record breaker? Documentation? Etc. I want to do it all correctly. Thank you again.

I had to take mine from NM to CO, to an official GPC weigh off.
It seems like a lot of effort, but it was worth it. You get to see all the other pumpkins, and meet the people that grow them.

@ cozy, when you brought it from NM to CO does it count for NM? How does that work? Hopefully that's not a dumb question.
I don't think there is a pumpkin weigh off anywhere near my area.

@ So.Cal.Grower, good luck! Yeah, you have your hands full with that one. It's not unreachable.

I see people going to weigh offs in many different states still get the credit from the state they come from, so you will still be recorded for mississippi even if you weigh it in tennesse.

So.Cal.Grower,
You should take Don Young's game to him, drive that new Ca. state record to Iowa. If you have to come up here, we'll try to let you down gently.

Hi Mike,
Its great to hear your enthusiasm, optimism and determination! To this list we need to add competition. That will make it all the more fun. There is another guy in Mississippi who says HE is planning to break the Mississippi state record. I wish you the best of luck.
Let the games begin!!

Just a heads up though you better get to it...I know of about 300 seeds that were handed out around jackson, ms area this last fall so we may even see a couple of them pop up nicely out of ms

I'm ready. I have seeds from nice genetics started, nearly every one came from parents over 1000 lbs. The more the merrier. I'd love to see competitive pumpkin growing started here. I hope one day we can break the 1000 lb class down here. I hope one day I'm that person.

WiZzzy, CO is a very long drive for me.. I don't think a pumpkin would make it that far in the ridiculous Southern August heat. How far do most people drive with their prize pumpkins?

It's over 1,300 miles for me!

1,317 mi, 19 hours 32 mins

In current traffic: 20 hours 7 mins .....

Would be great to get a weigh off site in KANSAS... cut it in half....

Only 438lbs! The same guy has 3 records, last was in 2004. I think he's been unchallenged for the last 15 years from what I've heard. It's time for Mr.Underwood to move over for the next record breaker. He had his run but all good things must come to an end sooner or later. :-)
