Have a soil test back and have a ph of 6.1 and 6.5.
My calcium, phosphorous and Nitrogen are all very high. Talked to the areas soil expert and she suggested adding the right amount of limestone to bring up to 6.8-6.9 and to leave the patch alone for the season. No fertilizers just water.
Thoughts?

what about potassium, sulfur, magnesium, manganese, copper, boron? I tried getting by on the cheap with Iowa State P, K, PH, OM tests and have been stuck in the upper 800#'s to low 900#s. I got a good soil test and found out I was low on a lot of nutrients. Also I was getting recommendations based on normal gardens. AG's need higher nutrients to sustain the crazy growth rates. Post the test results and some knowledgeable growers can make recommendations.

Haligourdian and Iowegian,
I'm not an expert but if you want some great advice from a great grower try this: On this Message Board, go to the New Growers Forum, click back to Pap's three posts on 12/26/2011- Subject: knowing your soil. Great stuff.
Also, check this out: More good stuff. http://woodleaffarm.com/enlivening-soil/
I hope this helped. Good luck.

Very good article Jim. I got my last soil test from Western labs and they give recommendations for Atlantic Giants. I managed to beat Don Young by a few pounds last year with terrible weather, so with all the micro nutrients covered I'm hoping for better results this year. That is if Mother Nature doesn't try to freeze us out in May and bake us in July and August again.
