Subject: molasses going bad,,, it doesn't happen?

A couple of months ago I heard some people in the chat room say that mollases will go bad after a few months. Does this happen? I have read that molasses doesnt really ever go bad. Also, items with a high sugar content don't tend to go bad because their sugar content is TOO high for microorganisms to live inside of the item. It basically works the exact same way salt does to prevent food from rotting. The extremely high sugar content inside of the item is higher than the sugar content in the select microorganism, causing water to flow from the organism (low sugar content) to the molasses (high sugar content) which kills the organism. Of course, we water the molasses down which is why it does not kill microorganisms when we water it into the soil.

molasses will sugar up as we call it (from the south), put in in a microwave or hot water for a minute or hot water and it will return to original state. Should not be a problem.

I had a bunch of 3.5 gal buckets of unsulfured molasses begin to mold on top over time. I assume once it's exposed to O2 that the potential for bacterial growth is possible depending on the sugar content of the molasses.

There are different grades of molasses. And yes it can spoil. It usually happens in a warm place (like above the stove) or if the container is left open. But it does take a LONG time for this to happen.
