I know there has been alot said on Optimal AG Vine size so with that said what are your alls opinions on placeing (2) AG Plants within a confined space of 28ft x 36 ft. I'm trying to decide if I could get away with putting (2) AG plants in my 28" x 36" Screen House this 2014 season and what your opinions on the best layout would be. Heres a link to my diary with a set of (3) proposed vine layouts. Would also like to here from some Veteran growers on what your Optimal Vine Size opinions are from past growing experience. Double Thanks for your Time and ANY Input you may Have. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=212789

Im going to 2 plants in the kin cave.I thought 600 sq fet was enough per plant.Ron & Tim both had plants 800 to 1000 ft.So I will be doing 800 per plant this year.

My patch is laid out similar to yours with drainage ditches, just with a little larger area. I have been using your layout "C" as it allows me to rotate the stumps from one side to the other. Now, after 2 years in this layout, I will go to layout "B" for a year, then layout "A" for a year, then go to sweet corn for a year. This it will take 5 years before a stump area is re-used. I hope this will stop some of the early root rot problems I have fought for years. I think it would help growers with foaming stump problems. You can train vines to use up all of the available space.

I figured you were going to double up Mark! Sounds pretty smart Iowegian on your rotation. The 1248 Sundstrom consumed almost every inch easily last year in this one screen house but I was wondering if I was growing too much salad and it was holding me back besides other things I found I have been doing wrong. I'm dealing with an area of just 1000 sq ft and feel I might be pushin it with two plants even though it appears if I go Figure C It may possible work. About training the Vine, lol. I had the 1248's vine @ nearly 55 ft long in there in a figure 8 pattern last season, lol. Probably growing salad @ that point yes?

With 1000 feetI would grow a melon on 200 feet & a kin on 800 feet. I rotate My stump locations this year they will get the center locations.about 14 feet from lasts spots.I think with the 12 inch plow & the beneficials, stump covers & not putting fresh compost within 3 feet of the stumpI wont have problems,2 years clean now.

My patch is almost exactly the same size as yours (about 1k sq feet). I've grown 2 plants on this size area not problem, so 500 sq foot per plant. If you search this website for post on this topic, and after looking at the data on the old AGGC, many HH's have grown their biggest on 400-600 sq foot plants. As far as the vine positioning, I like A or B. Don't like C. For me, A is much more practical as you don't have to trudge to the middle of the patch every time you need to get to the stump.

Thanks for all the input folks. Everyone here has given me somthin to chew on and I appreciate that. Pumpking I like the offset center back to back location layout you emailed me. Mark & Dan I'm going for it in putting two in this screen house. Center stump location in Figure "B" off set from each other growing to the corners abit is whats going to happen. I've also got the other 7 Patch sites here fall preped for other Items to be grown but thought I'd give this a try. No Broccili and Tomatoes in the screen house this year, just Kins. Thanks again for ya'lls input.
