The 2014 SOGPG advanced grower’s seminar will take place on March 8, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at Rick Brown Memorial VFW post 7941 3301 Northup Avenue South Bloomfield, Ohio 43103. Lunch and refreshments will be served.
The SOGPG held over enough money to have a first class seminar with guest speakers Matt DeBacco, Chris Kent, and representatives from Schaeffer’s Specialized Lubricants. Matt will speak on seed selection and soils and Chris will speak on how he grew the world record watermelon. Schaeffer’s is a major sponsor of the SOGPG and features some great new products which go hand-in-hand with how we grow giant pumpkins and watermelons.
There will also be an opportunity for anyone interested to become an active part of the SOGPG committee and we will plan committees in preparation for our 2014 weigh-off which will be held on October 3rd and 4th.
Congratulations to Lisa Gerchy, who was tapped by Site Coordinator Tony Vanderpool to serve as the SOGPG liaison to the Operation Pumpkin committee. Lisa will be relating the SOGPG’s interests with the committee and Hamilton city officials and will do a great job for us, as she is very passionate about serving and is very detail-oriented.

I am looking forward to presenting to the group. I invite the growers that plan on attending to start making a list of questions as I will gladly answer questions that growers may have that are not on my main speaking topics.
Also, while I may not be able to do this for everyone, if you have a recent soil test, I would also be willing to take a look at them and offer at least general suggestions to those in attendance.
