When do people usually send out seeds?

I will let you know as soon as I receive my bubbles back.

Some growers haven't even harvested their seeds yet, and it takes at least 2 weeks to completely dry.

And some people don't even reply.

I'm finally caught up on requests for seeds submitted during the last 4 weeks.

It depends on the growers who send out the seeds...sometimes they let you know when they are planning to send out bubbles, sometimes they send the seeds within couple days...you could send them a friendly email and ask if they have received your bubble, just to make sure they have received your bubble. In case of such an email they either look for your bubble and let you know when they will probably return it, or they simply respond that they have already received buckets full of bubbles and will wait for another couple weeks and then do all the bubble work...depends on the growers and on the number of seed requests and bubbles they receive.

The top growers get HUNDREDS of requests for each pumpkin they grow. Then there is the drying and cataloging and storing, the creation of the labels, putting the labels on the envelopes, mailing the bubbles, adding postage if not enough on the bubble, etc.

And yes, sending a friendly email to ask if a grower received a bubble is a good idea. The USPS mail sorting machines sometimes do a great job of shredding bubbles.

Some growers wait to send seeds after the auctions are completed.

Getting to be prime time-most of the pumpkins were opened by Halloween. Another week or two and most seeds will be dry.

I would respectfully disagree about sending a grower emails to make sure they get your bubble. That could be many emails and lots of work digging through bubbles.

Chris is right I had one request & the mans name was not on the outside of envelope sent.So this can create a lot of time spent trying to trace packs.I think if you wait till Febuary and havent received your seeds. There is still time to get them in time for planting.I answer all emails & requests if there is a subject posted. No subject and Im not sure who it is I delete them and never read it.I will respond to every request.I know some growers that dont.I find this arrogant, and I hope I never get so many I become that way.It depends how hot the seed is when they may send them.Hot ones after the auctions, others may come sooner.

The reason for having the seed auctions during the winter is to raise funds for clubs. If top growers with very sought after seeds sent the seeds out now they would likely kill the value of the seed during auction. Supporting our clubs by purchasing seeds is what keeps cost down of the weigh offs, raises prize money, ect. In the end if you end up with a "free" seed from the grower that's great. You may just need it for a backup.

If your patient they will come. I have received response to all my seed request via email and have started receiving seeds. I am sure they will all send their seeds. And we can't plant till next year anyway. But the anticipation/excitement of getting home to see if there is a bubble in the mail is worth it.

Also, don't forget some growers need to take a break. Planting season isn't until April/May. Just be patient.

I just got through all the club requests I had today and they are in the mail. Now I will start working on individual requests over the next couple weeks. It is not as simple of process as it would seem. I know others that doen't even look at seed requests until winter.
