I was just wondering if i took my cuttings out of the propagation machiene a bit prematurely this year. I got all of my cuttings rooted and the root ball was about 1" by 2" when i took them out and planted them in a potting medium. All of them died within about a week of putting them in pots. Should i leave them in the machiene longer next time? Thanks!

Hey Ashton. I find that it helps to cut the leaves in half or keep the plants in a very humid environment until the root system develops. Both methods help to reduce evapotranspiration.

Don't use fertilizers. I have also found that the plants will put out more roots early on if fertilizers aren't used. Fertilizers can also wick away moisture from the plants.

Yardman,

I'm rooting in a aroponic cloning machiene, the clones are hung on a tray and are continueously sprayed with water. You cant put soil into it. Thanks

I wouldn't wait for the roots to get too long Ashton. I put mine in soil when the root is about 2-3 inches long w/ minimal secondary roots.

Like I said, controlling evapotranspiration is the key to keeping em alive after transplanting. I use a big plastic storage box with a misting system that goes off once an hour. Once I see the roots coming out the bottom of the pot (Usually 3-5 days) I know it is safe to remove them from the humidity chamber.
