I am in the market for a small tractor, roughly in the 25 hp range. for all you tractor owners what are the pro's and cons of the models you own?

I've a Kubota 24Hp. when you have all the different tools, you can do a great work. Small size means I can work inside the tunnels with no problem. They need very few diesel, very handy and easy to use. I really love it !

Bry, I have a Kubota BX1850. Only 18hp but does everything I need. I have a tiller for the back, no bucket yet... I bought brand new, but I agree with Dave. Knowing what I know now I would have bought used and saved $$$$.

We have a small Kubota as well. We have a front bucket, tiller & snowblower for it. Great tool for our gardens, for blowing snow from our long driveway & for general use around our house. I doubt that we would be still growing if we didn't have it.

I have a new holland 45hp diesel hydrostat, which i bought new. Great tractor and can lift up to 1700 lbs. I have a few cattle and lift round hay bales as well as my pumpkins.

I have a Kubota BX 2350 and can't imagine a better tractor.
It pulls a 52" tiller like nothing even through gooey manure.
Plus, Kubotas are made in the USA. Almost everything else is made in China.

I agree with Grizfan....buy something big enough so that at the end of the year you can at least load your own pumpkin on to the trailer. Check the buckets load capacity and make sure it can handle it. My uncles 30 horse New Holland couldn't even pick up my 1300 pound pumpkin. Lots of good new and used tractors out there.....just find one that can handle everything YOU need. Good luck

made in USA = 50% , parts com from Japan and assembled in US , that's how almost every tractor is made, including Jd,NH, case IH so looking where it's made is not worth anything in these modern times. dealer service is # 1 thing to look at when buying a tractor

A budy has a ford 8 N he bought it for $2000, it disks,plows, but the tiller he uses on it is small, but he loves it.

like I said Jd and kubota are both even on quality and technology but it's all about dealer service, same tractor can be pain in the ass with one dealer and with other it is fine

One thing that I got on my new holland was the quick attach system on the loader. It is great. Can change from bucket, to forks, bale spear or other implements within seconds.

We own a New Holland 28HP with loader. Loader will pick ~900lbs off the ground w/out assistance. anything heavier requires creativity, assistance, or a bigger tractor.

If you purchase a loader, hydrostatic transmission is a must, otherwise half your time on the machine is spent shifting gears.

PTO easily powers a 60" rear tine tiller, which makes tillage and weed control a snap.

Regarding brand name, purchase the one whose dealership is closest. Deere/NH/Kubota...what matters most is accessibility to parts and repair when you need it.

as pumpkins grow past 2000lbs you will exceed the lift capacity of all but the largest tractor/loader combinations. Large skid loaders will get you past 2500lbs. Everyone will have to get creative loading the biggest fruit.

Kubota makes a good small tractor. I think the small JD's are Yanmar made. In the larger sizes the Kubotas are too light and PTO hp is weak, better off with a Massey, Deere, Case. But the small Kubotas are good tractors.

When buying used, what is a respectable amount of hours? Is 200 ok or used too much. I found one that fits me perfect, now I need to wheel and deal on it.

Bry, we have an old 1950ish Ferguson Tractor, doesnt look pretty but does a good job. We use it with a 5 ft bush hog, 4 ft tiller, does the job for us. The only thing I would add, is get one with a bucket. We paid about $2000 about 16 years ago. Had to replace gas tank. Good luck.

As for the one you found, hours I guess are important but maintenance would be more important.

any tractoris better than walking behind a troy built rear tine like ron and i did for many years.

our used kubota is very reliable for the most part. we use ours year round ,tilling,plowing,leveling,moving,etc. what a great feeling to have a tractor for these situations.

Yup, John Deere it is. My inlaws have two big ones. They can take a beating. They also have kubotas,and fords. They are all fun but nothing beats the Deere on performance and company service.

For my purposes, a 1954 allis chalmers wd45 with full hydraulic loader is all i need. Much cheaper than new and a fun toy to play with.

Dealer service doesn't mean a thing if your tractor is always breaking down because it's poorly built.
