When I saw this news post...Englishman...world record Carp.... I immediately went to it to see Ian and his new world record carp......but it wasn't Ian. How did you ever let that happen Ian?

It's a Siamese carp, which is very different than our common carp. We much prefer this type :

By the way, this morning, a nice 68lb mirror graced the bank here !

Tangent on another type, I should post a pic in my diary sometime, but I used to radio track Bighead and Silver Carp (the jumpers) here on the Mississippi and Missouri River basins with the USGS. I know there are many different types of Carp, but funny how we view them compared to Europe. Turtle\catfish bait at best.

Was always wondering the same thing Luke,,,,,,,, thought maybe I was missing something.

Use to catch them at the river with cheese balls, Cheetos or anything else left over in the ice chest ;)

Must be a special type over seas.

there like pets in England, the big ones have names too, lol
ie,, dippy, snake pit common, swirly, Vanessa, elvis, heather, two tone,,,,
every time they get caught they get weighed and photographed, then put back.
there is a massive market here just for the one species, everything is available for (carp fishing)
even fishing holidays,
the bait per kilo, costs more than my dinner too, lol

I know they are tough fighters and you have to use big gear to catch them by reel.

It's like in Japan where invasive Largemouth Bass are considered a nuisance species and we consider them and all black bass as a sport species.

they also get very wise here after they get caught a few times, lol
but that just adds to the challenge ;-)
the longest fight I had was an hour and a half, just a low 20lb'er.
hey its all fishing, don't matter what we catch, better than work any day,,,
