Hi all,

I'm going to prepare a small piece of my garden for AG pumpkins.

Now this is my simple newbie question : how deep do the roots usually grow?

Thanks in advance for any reaction.

Greetings from Belgium!

the depth need for good root growth can be determined a lot by the condition of the soil. the sandy loose soil will support deeper root growth.
best average is to prepare the top 12-18 inches of you soil.to support sufficient root growth.
however a hardpan condition below 18 or so inches will also promote overly moist conditiond because of poor drainage and will support disease and root rot.
for that reaso every few years we sub soil below thegrowing area.

I don't think anyone can add much to what Pap just said.

I'm broadforking to 16" this year. I'll see how that will work out.
