Hello, I am very new to this and I am looking for some tips. I attempted to grow a giant pumpkin this year. The + is that I grew a pumpkin, the - is that 56lb is not a giant. Can someone give me some tips on what I should be doing now to prepare my soil for next year? Thanks

Get a good soil test and apply nutrients as recommended. Take care of any drainage issues. If you need to raise organic matter, you should soon be able to get plenty of maple leaves to till in. Plant a winter hardy cover crop like rye or winter wheat. Read everything you can on this website.

Join a club, go to the main menu, click on Links, there are a few Ohio clubs, find a grower in your area and visit his patch, ask alot of questions.

Focus on your soil and get some seeds from a good stock of proven Atlantic giants- not generic store bought seed. Your local club in Ohio can help you with both. Good luck!

Take a ride up to Dundee MI on Sat Oct 5th. They have a great weigh-off. Make a few contacts localy and keep looking on craigslist for a used backpak sprayer. Don;t worry about seeds for next year most growers are happy to give them to you. Get soil test done as soon as possible.
