I have an estimated 700lb pumpkin right now only 8ft from base , a personal best still a month and a few days left till weigh in i took all the steps to weed out the SVB... merit , seven thought I was good and now so far I have pulled 10+ grubs out of my vines and leaf stems im hoping I got them all but they dont seem to have had much of an affect on the plant or vines everything seems to be doin well, any input on this ...

I use merit for systemic, and bifenthrin liquid spray for contact. Then I dust the stump and the main with Eight dust, occasionally using a little sevin dust. And I use garlic powder as a repellant. Seems to work on svb. So far this year bugs have not been a problem at all. If you got all the borers before they did much damage your pumpkin should continue to grow. Don't give up on it.

using merit correctly should have eliminated the problem? it has always worked for us.
sounds silly but are the vine borers dead when you extract them?(you mentioned the plant and vines looked healthy?) causing me to state the above.

My plant that had best growing pumpkin had at least a dozen in the main and side vines. I picked them out and noticed the vines healing with in days and pumpkin never slowed its growth, until it split. I would watch the areas where you dug them out for rot and look for more. Pumpkin should grow fine. good luck
