This is my second year growing and this happened to me both years. After one pumpkin starts to gain weight the others abort and the new ones never develop to flowering. But some of the side vines will develop but not the ones on the main vine. I going to send out a tissue test on Monday to see if there are anything out of whack. Any ideas on what would cause this?

I think this can be caused by the pumpkin plant determining the "sink" early on and as a result the first one tends to take and the rest down the line on the main vine do not get as much nutrients as they have to pass by the main "sink", and as a result they abort at an early age.
This is at least my thought anyway.

I think that's normal. When everything slows after the set fruit, I know I have a strong sink. My best ones have done that. If your set fruit doesn't grow well, then you might have a problem. Testing never hurts.

Thank I will still send a tissue test in. It did go from 5" cic. a day to 3" but the ott stayed about the same(dap 18 today). The weather here went from mid 90's day and high 70's at night to high 70's day and 60 at night.
